Finally: About two weeks ago, constructions of the fourth classroom in „Lighthouse Academy“’s new tract were completed.
The School-Extension-Project in Fobeni has therefore been successfully finished. In the chapter „(What happened in Fobeni since my return?) I already reported that, through exemplary use of donation funds, a possibility arised to build an additional classroom. What was still missing in „small change“ was provided by FLY&HELP as well as „Operation Mobilisation“. And now the school is looking forward to the beginning of classes in the new room.
More updates and great news from South Africa:
The women of the seamstress project „Basadi“ were, thanks to a donation by „Tesco“, equipped with new sewing machines. They were also able to employ two additional ladies to help meet the increased demands.
The contact with the „Regine Sixt Child Relief Foundation“ was intensified and gives hope for long-term cooperation. „3000€ from Regine Sixt“
The Projects „OVC“ and also the „Feeding Scheme“ are continuing to do great work for the weakest and poorest in the village. In addition, the pre-school teachers in kindergarten and volunteers from the village will be trained to teach children reading at an even earlier age in the coming vacations. (In cooperation with „Operation Mobilisation“)
Constructions for the first house for teachers have started. Until now, teachers had the option of living in a shared flat in what amounts to a construction trailer. Establishment of this newer, more comfortable accomodation is supposed to provide the teachers with a higher standard of living, and thus bind capable personnel to „Lighthouse Academy“
Another construction is also in full swing: The well, sponsored by Mohau e.V., will ensure simple and uncomplicated access to water in Fobeni. Due to the continuing drought it was especially hard to find precious H2O during drilling. At a depth of 43 Meters, they finally hit liquid gold. This is a huge relief for the village community, and a massive boost to the living condition.
And the greatest news for me, personally: Vutomi, my South African godchild, is doing even better in her new school than I had hoped. She is learning dilligently and was already able to close most gaps. She has also integrated really well in her new class already, and she has lots of friends. Just a few days ago, she got to enjoy her first school trip, see saw lots of animals at the zoo and learned a plethora of interesting things about them.
The tumor on her face hasn’t grown since my earlier visit, and currently, there is no need for a further operation. Vutomi’s story
I think about my South African friends quite often, delight in every piece of good news with them, and with a happy smile, I send „positive energy“!
